San Diego, CA (Basketball News) - Aerick Sanders registered a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the San Diego State Aztecs past the UNLV Rebels, 83-78, in a Mountain West Conference clash at Cox Arena.
Brandon Heath scored 21 points, Marcus Slaughter had 11 and Wesley Stokes chipped in 10 points for the Aztecs (11-6, 2-0 MWC).
Odartey Blankson tallied 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Rebels (9-5, 0-2). James Peters netted 15 points, Romel Beck added 12 and Demetrius Hunter finished with 11 points in the losing effort.
The Aztecs led the Rebels 40-38 at the conclusion of a well-contested first half.
San Diego State outscored UNLV 43-40 in the second half to take the five-point victory.
The Aztecs shot 47.7 percent from the field in the game, compared to 51.9 percent for the Rebels.
San Diego State has won four of its last five games, while UNLV dropped its second decision in a row.
