NBA Game Summary - Atlanta at Golden State

Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - Jason Richardson had 28 points as the Golden State Warriors used a huge second half to defeat the Atlanta Hawks, 122-97, in the season opener for both teams at The Arena in Oakland.

Baron Davis left in the third quarter with a strain of his left hamstring. He finished with 15 points and seven assists on the night for the Warriors, who outscored the Hawks, 75-40, in the second half.

Troy Murphy had 19 points and nine rebounds, and Mickael Pietrus put up 20 points, 18 in the second half, off the bench as the Warriors defeated the Hawks for the seventh time in a row.

Al Harrington had 18 points and seven rebounds, and Joe Johnson, who was acquired in the offseason from the Phoenix Suns, added 17 points for the Hawks, who opened the season following the sudden death of Jason Collier on October 15th.

Marvin Williams, the No. 2 overall pick in June’s draft, had 12 points in his NBA debut for the Hawks.

Atlanta saw a 10-point lead early in the third quarter disappear when Golden State tore the game wide open with a 27-2 run.

The Warriors came out on fire in the third quarter. They outscored the Hawks 39-16 in the stanza. Richardson had eight points on the run, including a three-point shot and a three-point play after being fouled on a two-point basket.

Golden State scored 75 points in the second half and shot 6-of-12 from the three-point line. The team finished with a 58 percent shooting percentage on the night.

The first quarter ended with the Hawks up 26-25. However, on the strength of a three minute 11-2 run, Atlanta went into the second half with a 57-47 lead.

The Warriors were outrebounded 28-19, missed 11 free throws, and committed 14 turnovers in the first half.

Harrington had eight points in the second quarter and 12 points in the first half.
