New York, NY (Basketball News) - Alan Anderson scored 18 points and Raymond Felton had 16 points and 14 assists as the Charlotte Bobcats defeated the New York Knicks, 98-91, in a meaningless contest at Madison Square Garden.
Jake Voskuhl tallied 17 points and nine boards and Melvin Ely had 12 points for the Bobcats, who have won three straight and four of five. Matt Carroll rounded out the double-figure scorers for Charlotte, which improved to 25-56 with just one game remaining in the season.
Jamal Crawford had a game-high 24 points and added six assists for the Knicks, whose disappointing season is just one game away from a merciful conclusion. Eddy Curry registered 16 points as New York’s losing streak reached five games in its home finale.
New York head coach Larry Brown missed his third straight game due to a stomach ailment that had him hospitalized last week after the team lost in Cleveland. It is unclear at this point if Brown will be on the bench for the club’s season finale Wednesday in New Jersey.
The Knicks scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 56-55 lead. However, that was the final advantage for New York in the game. Voskuhl responded on the Bobcats’ next possession with a basket and later he started a 7-2 run to end the third quarter, giving Charlotte a 76-69 edge heading into the fourth.
Carroll hit a three-pointer to start the final quarter scoring and New York got only as close as 91-88 the rest of the way. Crawford’s basket with just over two minutes left made it a three-point game, but Felton answered with a field goal on the Bobcats’ next trip down the floor and New York never got within one possession the rest of the way.
New York led 27-26 after one quarter, but the Bobcats rallied to lead 55-49 after two quarters of play.
