NBA Game Summary - Golden State at New Orleans/Oklahoma City

04.5.2006

Oklahoma City, OK (Basketball News) - Chris Paul notched a triple-double with 17 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds in leading the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets to a 114-109 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Speedy Claxton scored 21 points and dished out seven assists for the Hornets, who remain two games behind Sacramento for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. David West and Linton Johnson each scored 13 points in the victory, while Marc Jackson had 12.

"It was a tough game," said Paul. "Golden State gave us a run for our money once again, just like last week. We’re just happy we could pull it out."

Jason Richardson led the way for the Warriors with a game-high 24 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds. Derek Fisher turned in 22 points in the loss, while Mike Dunleavy had 19 points and six rebounds. Monta Ellis chipped in 11 points, as Golden State dropped its sixth straight game.

The Hornets shot 47.8 percent from the floor in the first quarter, as they held a slim 27-24 edge at the end of the period.

Richardson nailed a three-pointer with 0.6 seconds left in the second quarter, that pulled the Warriors within five points, 55-50, at the break.

Golden State scored the last nine points of the third quarter and tied the game at 82-82 behind a Mickael Pietrus layup with 0.2 seconds remaining in the frame.

In a tightly contested fourth quarter, Claxton made one of two free throws to put the Hornets ahead 103-101 with nine seconds left. Following a Golden State timeout, Fisher got the ball in the lane and nailed a short jumper to tie the game with 2.1 seconds left. West had a chance to win the game in regulation for the Hornets, but his jump shot was no good at the buzzer.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City closed out the overtime with an 8-2 spurt, as it picked up the victory.

"I think they are starting to get it a little bit," said Hornets head coach Byron Scott. "We have guys who are starting to step up right now."

The Hornets committed just seven turnovers in the game compared to 17 by the Warriors.
