Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 103-86 victory over the New Orleans Hornets at American Airlines Center.
Devin Harris was 3-of-3 from three-point range and finished with 17 points in the win. Michael Finley had 16 points for the Mavericks, who beat the Hornets for the 13th consecutive time. Dallas has won three straight games and six of its last eight overall.
The Mavericks have won both games since Avery Johnson took over for Don Nelson on Saturday.
J.R. Smith had 27 points for the Hornets, who have lost six of their last eight games. Dan Dickau contributed 14 and Jamaal Magliore added 13 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
Tied at 20-20 after the opening 12 minutes, the Mavericks used a big second quarter to take control. Dallas outscored the Hornets 32-7 to begin the frame and remained in front the rest of the way.
New Orleans managed to score eight of the final 12 points of the quarter and trailed 56-35 at halftime.
The Mavs continued to add to their lead, going in front by 27 points before taking an 83-61 cushion into the fourth quarter.
