NBA Game Summary - New York at Minnesota

Minneapolis, MN (Basketball News) - Kevin Garnett had 26 points and 15 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves held off the New York Knicks, 98-94, at the Target Center.

Ricky Davis poured in 21 points and eight boards and Rashad McCants netted 17 for the Timberwolves, who snapped a two game losing streak and have won three of their last five games.

Jamal Crawford paced the Knicks with 20 points and Steve Francis added 15 points in the loss, New York’s fifth straight and seventh in its last nine attempts. Stephon Marbury contributed 12 points and nine assists in the contest.

Trailing 80-61 heading into the final frame the Knicks outscored the Timberwolves 33-18 to erase a 19 point fourth quarter lead and get back in the game.

Davis’ jumper made the score 91-77 with almost five minutes on the clock, but that was the last field goal the T’Wolves would hit.

The Knicks used a 15-3 burst, behind five points apiece from Marbury and Crawford, to pull within two, 94-92. However, that wasn’t enough as Minnesota drained 4-of-6 free-throws in the final 10 seconds to put the game away.

Marbury’s jumper cut the deficit to 15-10, but the Timberwolves reeled off a 12-2 spurt, capped by Mark Blount’s basket, to up the lead to 27-12. Minnesota led 30-14 after 12 minutes of play.

The Knicks began the second quarter with a 6-2 run to pull within 32-20, but the T’Wolves responded with a 12-3 streak, highlighted by Eddie Griffin’s trey, to extend the lead to 44-23. Minnesota held a 55-35 advantage at the half.

New York went on a 14-5 run, bridging the second and third quarters, to narrow the gap to 58-42. Jalen Rose scored six points and Marbury added five during the surge.

However, the Timberwolves countered with a 15-7 burst, including six points from Garnett, to push the margin to 73-49.
