Cavs try to halt losing streak against Clippers

11.30.2005

(Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers try to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak, as they welcome the Los Angeles Clippers tonight to Quicken Loans Arena.

This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. The Clippers are scheduled to host the Cavaliers on December 3rd at the Staples Center.

The Clippers have lost three in a row at Cleveland.

On Saturday, Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Cavaliers, 89-85, at Quicken Loans Arena.

LeBron James torched the Timberwolves for 38 points for Cleveland, but received little help from his teammates in the loss. The Cavaliers shot a season-low 32 percent from the floor.

Cleveland’s three main free-agent acquisitions — Larry Hughes, Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall — were a combined 3-of-31 for 13 points in the loss to Minnesota. Drew Gooden scored 12 points and grabbed 12 boards and Hughes added 12 points for the Cavaliers, who have lost two straight after reeling off eight consecutive victories.

After tonight’s game, the Cavaliers are scheduled to embark on a three-game road trip. They will visit Seattle on Friday, the Clippers on Saturday and Sacramento on December 6th.

The Cavaliers are 6-1 at home this season.

The Clippers closeout a brief two-game road trip. On Tuesday, Corey Maggette scored 30 points and added 10 rebounds, as the Clippers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 93-84, at the Target Center.

Elton Brand had 19 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Minnesota for the Clippers, and Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley each chipped in with 13 points to pace the Clippers, who stopped a two-game slide. The Clippers snapped a seven- game skid at Minnesota, winning at the Target Center for the first time since March 11, 2002.

The Clippers, who are 5-3 on the road this season, return home Saturday for a five-game homestand. They will host Cleveland, Miami, New York, Phoenix and Detroit on the upcoming stand.
