Burmeister leads Washington past Colonels

Justin Dentmon added 16 points, while Quincy Pondexter had 14 and Jon Brockman ended with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Huskies (2-0) won despite 23 turnovers.

"They are not a huge concern, but they are a concern," Huskies head coach Lorenzo Romar said. "These things have happened to us before when we have turned the ball over early. That becomes the number one question, what are we going to do about the turnovers? We need to get better at that."

Adonis Gray had 29 points and Aaron Scott tallied 24 for Nicholls State (0-3), which fell behind early by shooting 29.2 percent in the opening half, compared to 57.6 percent for the Huskies.

Washington took control of the game almost immediately by using a 26-2 run for a 36-8 advantage. Dentmon’s three-pointer ended the spurt and the Huskies bolstered their lead to 56-22 at the break.

Although the Colonels outscored the Huskies in the second half, they could never get remotely close.

Ryan Appleby had 11 points and Phil Nelson scored 10 for Washington, which connected on 17-of-33 three-point tries.

Conversely, Nicholls State was 3-of-15 from long distance.

Nicholls State had 20 turnovers...The Huskies’ next game will be against Northern Iowa Tuesday night in the finale of the tournament, while Nicholls State plays Pepperdine.
