No. 6 Memphis rolls past UTEP

El Paso, TX (Basketball News) - Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 21 points to help No. 6 Memphis beat Texas-El Paso, 78-67, at Don Haskins Center.

Jeremy Hunt added 19 points and six rebounds for the Tigers (26-3, 15-0 C- USA), who have an 18-game winning streak, the longest in the nation.

Stefon Jackson scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Miners (14-15, 6-9), who have dropped five of their last six games.

Texas El-Paso was trailing by four points to start the second half and kept Memphis from running away with the contest in the beginning of the half.

Victor Ramalho made it a one-point game when his layup got the Miners to within 57-56 at the mid-point of the second half.

However, with under seven minutes to play Memphis went on a 9-0 run and made it a 68-58 game when Douglas-Roberts hit a free throw to complete a three- point play with 5:16 to play.

Texas El-Paso scored the next five points to make it a 68-63 game, but a three-pointer by Hunt with under a minute to play sealed the victory for Memphis.

The game was tight through much of the first half, but Memphis went on a 10-2 run and had a 20-11 lead on an Antonio Anderson slam with 12:09 left in the opening 20 minutes.

The Tigers lead by as many as 11 points in the first half, but a 7-0 run got the Miners back into the contest and they trailed by only four points, 40-36, heading into the locker room.

Game Notes

Memphis has won six of the last seven meetings with UTEP...Doneal Mack had 10 points for Memphis...Jeremy Sampson netted 14 points for the Miners...Memphis shot 41.2 percent while the Miners shot 47.1 percent from the floor.
