Duncan, who injured the ankle in practice on Monday, had already been listed as questionable after hyperextending his left knee in Thursday’s win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Duncan, a two-time league MVP, leads the Spurs in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 21.3 points per game and 11.8 boards per outing.
San Antonio, which played the third game of seven-game road trip on Tuesday, hopes to have its star back in the lineup at some point during the trip. The Spurs play in Washington on Wednesday and then head to the Meadowlands for a game against the Nets on Friday.
"It really depends on how it reacts (to treatment)," said Duncan. "It’s not as serious as I first thought so that’s good."
In other roster news, San Antonio activated center Rasho Nesterovic from the injured list. Nesterovic, who had missed the last six games due to a left ankle sprain, scored 15 points Tuesday to lead the Spurs to a 104-85 victory over the expansion Bobcats.
Meanwhile, the team announced that guard Mike Wilks has been placed on the injured list with left patella tendinitis. Wilks is averaging 1.2 points in 30 games this season
