Elie, 40, played 11 seasons in the NBA, averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 732 regular season games with Golden State, Philadelphia, Portland, Houston, San Antonio and Phoenix. He also played in 116 career playoff contests, winning three NBA championships with Houston (1994 & 1995) and San Antonio (1999).
In 2003-04, the New York City native rejoined the Spurs as an assistant coach to Gregg Popovich.
"We are delighted to add a person with Mario’s experience and character to our staff," said Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. "He had an extremely successful career as an NBA player and knows what it takes to be a winner in this league. His experience on the bench with San Antonio this past season has prepared him well for this opportunity."
Elie played two seasons with the Warriors from 1990-92, appearing in 109 games.
"I’m very excited about rejoining the Warriors as an assistant coach," said Elie. "I look forward to working alongside Mike Montgomery and helping this team continue its recent improvement trend. I feel that the organization is headed in the right direction and it is a tremendous opportunity for me to join them at this point."
