Golden State promotes Mullin

In addition to Mullin’s promotion, Garry St. Jean was relieved of his duties as general manager but is expected to remain with the organization.

Those same attributes will allow him to thrive in this new position, where he will lead our team from a basketball operations standpoint."

Mullin made his return to Golden State as a special assistant under St. Jean back in 2002-03. He will now attempt to around a franchise that has not made the playoffs since the 1993-94 campaign.

The 39-year-old Mullin spent a stellar 16-year career in the NBA, including 13 seasons with the Warriors. Mullin will be responsible for providing assistance to the entire basketball operations staff under his new position. Some of his additional responsibilities include player development and evaluation.

Mullin was the No. 7 pick in the 1985 NBA Draft out of St. John’s and made five All-Star appearances (1989-93).

"I look forward to the challenge of building a championship caliber basketball team," Mullin said. "I’ve spent 15 of my 18 NBA seasons as a player and executive with this organization. It has played a major role in my development as a player and a person, and I will do everything in my power to reward our great fans with a basketball team that will ultimately compete in the upper echelon of teams in this great league on a consistent basis."

Before making a second stint with Golden State, Mullin played with the Indiana Pacers for three years and was part of an NBA Finals run in 2000. For his career, Mullin averaged 18.2 points and 4.1 rebounds.

Golden State finished with a 37-45 record in 2003-04.
