Golden State Warriors 2005 Draft Preview

(Basketball News) - With the addition of two-time All-Star Baron Davis, who was acquired from New Orleans at the trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors have managed to put together a young and exciting team.

High-flying guard Jason Richardson had an excellent season for the Warriors, as he averaged a team-best 21.7 points in 72 games. Forward Troy Murphy, who registered 15.4 points and 10.8 boards per contest, and the 24-year-old Mike Dunleavy are a young and talented frontcourt tandem. The 25-year-old Murphy is strong down low, while Dunleavy can drain the outside jumper.

Davis, who averaged 19.5 points and 8.3 assists in 28 games for the Warriors, and Richardson give Golden State one of the most athletic and talented backcourts in the league.

Golden State has not made the playoffs since 1994, but with its current nucleus of players it is definitely headed in the right direction. The Warriors selected project Andris Biedrins with the 11th overall pick in last year’s draft, and will attempt to get a player that is more ready to contribute.

If Arizona’s Channing Frye is available, he could be the pick at No. 9. Syracuse’s Hakim Warrick may also interest the Warriors if he is still around.
