|
(Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors will return home tonight to face the New York Knicks at the Arena in Oakland.
The Warriors come into tonight’s contest on a losing note after falling on Friday to the upstart Denver Nuggets, 98-91. Mike Dunleavy had 19 points to lead Golden State, and Nick Van Exel collected 15 points and nine assists.
Jason Richardson finished with 16 points and seven boards, as Golden State dropped its second straight after a four-game winning streak.
Overcoming a 20-point third-quarter deficit, Golden State took its first lead since they had an early 2-1 advantage when Calbert Cheaney put back a Richardson miss to make it 80-79 with five minutes to go.
The teams traded the lead back-and-forth over the next few minutes until, ahead 91-90, Nene took a pass in tight and slammed the ball home for the three-point lead with 53 seconds to play. Richardson missed on the other end and Andre Miller drained a free throw for the 94-90 edge with 30 seconds left.
Clifford Robinson hit a free throw at the other end, but Voshon Lenard and Carmelo Anthony each drained a pair from the charity stripe to close out the game.
The Warriors have won three of their last four at home and are 7-4 in the Bay Area this season.
Golden State won both meetings with the Knicks last season, but New York has won six of nine and 11 of the last 15 matchups. The Knicks have also won nine of their last 11 in the Bay Area.
