Hornets, Grizzlies battle at the Ford Center

12.22.2006

(Basketball News) - The injury-riddled New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets will try to stop a four-game losing streak when they welcome the equally-struggling Memphis Grizzlies to the Ford Center this evening.

The Hornets, who are without three key contributors in guards Peja Stojakovic and Bobby Jackson and forward David West, suffered their latest defeat Wednesday in Orlando. Grant Hill had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead the Magic to an 86-83 victory over the Magic.

Chris Paul topped the Hornets with 19 points and 10 assists while Jannero Pargo finished with 16 points in the loss, New Orleans/Oklahoma City’s 11th in its last 13 games.

The Hornets, who will play the first of back-to-back contests at the Ford Center tonight, are 5-5 as the host this season. The club will entertain San Antonio on Saturday.

Memphis comes in with the worst record in the West at 6-20 and has dropped seven of its last eight, including Wednesday’s 105-98 setback at San Antonio.

Mike Miller led the Grizzlies with 22 points and eight rebounds while Pau Gasol scored 16 points in his fourth game back from a broken left foot.

Memphis is a woeful 2-13 on the road this year and has lost four in a row away from home.

The Hornets won three of four meetings between the clubs in 2005-06, including a 107-102 decision at the Ford Center in March.
