Malone injured in Lakers’ Game 2 win

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Karl Malone suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee during the Lakers’ 99-91 overtime victory against Detroit on Tuesday.

Malone tore the same MCL during the regular season, an injury that caused him to miss 40 games. He left Tuesday’s game early in the second quarter, but returned to score nine points with nine rebounds in 39 minutes.

Kobe Bryant tied Game 2 with a three-pointer near the end of regulation. He then scored four points in overtime, as the Lakers rebounded from a loss Sunday to even the series with the Pistons at one game apiece.

Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday in Detroit.
