Mashburn underwent arthroscopic surgery during training camp to remove loose particles in his right knee, and has yet to see any game action this year for the Hornets, tied for third place in the Central Division with a 25-19 mark.
The 30-year-old Mashburn was the Hornets’ leading scorer during the 2002-03 campaign with a 21.6 points-per-game average. He played in all 82 games last season, including 81 starts, and also posted averages of 6.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists.
To make room on the roster, New Orleans placed guard Bryce Drew on the injured list.
