Mavs get back on track

03.3.2006

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Dallas over Charlotte, 90-76, at American Airlines Center.

Jason Terry added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Mavs, who got back into the win column after having their six-game winning streak halted on Thursday against San Antonio.

"We were able to gut out a win," said Dallas head coach Avery Johnson. We were emotionally, mentally and physically drained, especially in the first half. We had a little talk with the team at halftime and they seemed to respond...[Thursday] took a lot out of our team."

Gerald Wallace had 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bobcats, who have dropped three of four.

The Mavs led 18-16 after one quarter, but Charlotte stayed with its high- powered opponent and went into halftime leading 37-36.

Dallas, however, gained control in the third. The Mavs opened the stanza with a 20-4 surge to go ahead 56-41. Terry had seven points during the run, which was capped by a Marquis Daniels basket with 5 1/2 minutes remaining.

The Mavs continued to pour it on from there, going into the fourth with a 70-52 cushion.

Dallas coasted through the fourth and the Bobcats never got within single digits.

"They were knocking down shots," said Wallace. "It gets hard to guard those guys when they are knocking down shots."

Raymond Felton had 11 points and six assists for the Bobcats, who have yet to beat the Mavs in four all-time meetings.

Erick Dampier had 14 rebounds for Dallas.

Game Notes

The Mavs’ Keith Van Horn left the game in the first quarter with a sprained left knee...Prior to the game, the NBA fined Mavs guard Jerry Stackhouse $30,000 for publicly criticizing officials after Thursday’s game. Stackhouse got involved in an altercation with San Antonio’s Robert Horry during the fourth quarter. The altercation resulted in the ejection of Horry, who was hit with a two-game suspension without pay by the league for part in the incident...The Bobcats fell to 6-26 on the road...Dallas improved to 27-4 at home.
