Minnesota signs Thomas for remainder of season

01.29.2005

Minneapolis, MN (Basketball News) - The Minnesota Timberwolves signed forward John Thomas for the remainder of the season. As per team policy financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Thomas, a University of Minnesota product, averaged 1.7 points, two rebounds and 10 1/2 minutes in his 10 games - three starts - with the Wolves this season.

He signed the first of two 10-day contracts on January 10 and his second, which was to expire today, was signed on January 20.

The 6-foot-9, 255-pounder was an original first-round pick of the New York Knicks in the 1997 NBA Draft. He was then traded by New York with Walter McCarty, Dontae Jones and Scott Brooks to the Boston Celtics for Chris Mills on October 22, 1997 and again traded by the Celtics with Chauncey Billups, Dee Brown and Roy Rogers to the Toronto Raptors for Kenny Anderson, Zan Tabak and Popeye Jones on February 18, 1998.

Thomas’ best season came during the 1998-99 campaign, when he averaged 4.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.2 minutes in 39 contests for Toronto.
