01.9.2007

(Basketball News) - Reigning MVP Steve Nash is a big reason whey the Phoenix Suns own an impressive 25-8 record and are 2 1/2 games ahead of the second place Los Angeles Lakers.

The 32-year-old Nash, who has won the MVP the last two seasons, is arguably having the best season of his career. He leads the Suns in scoring (19.9 ppg) and assists (11.0 apg). Nash has collected 22 double-doubles and has scored in double-digits in 30 of the 31 contests he has appeared in.

Phoenix, which has won the Pacific Division the last two seasons, continues to win games with its explosive offense, The Suns have scored 100 or more points in 27 of 33 games this season.

The red-hot Suns try to extend their winning streak to seven games when they welcome the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday to US Airways Center. It is the first meeting of the season between the squads. Seattle has won three of four and four of its last six at Phoenix. The Suns have won four of the last five contests in this series.

Phoenix plays the third of a five-game homestand against the SuperSonics. All- Star forward Shawn Marion dominated inside play with 24 points and 17 rebounds, as Phoenix continued its amazing run with a 128-105 rout of the Golden State Warriors on Sunday at US Airways Center.

Leandro Barbosa tallied 26 points and James Jones netted 25 in the win over Golden State for the Suns, who have won six in a row and 22 of their last 24 games overall. Nash contributed 14 points and 10 assists for Phoenix, and also became the ninth player (fourth active) in NBA history to reach the 10,000- point, 5,000-assist and 1,000 three-point field goal milestone.

Amare Stoudemire contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over the Warriors.

The Suns, who have won four in a row at US Airways Center, are 14-3 at home this season. They will also host Cleveland and Orlando on the current homestand. Phoenix defeated Orlando, 103-89, on December 11th, and will be playing the Cavaliers for the first time this season.
