Brown out of hospital, but will miss Friday’s game

04.14.2006

New York, NY (Basketball News) - New York Knicks head coach Larry Brown was released from a hospital, but will miss Friday’s home game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brown went to the locker room late in the third quarter of Thursday night’s 91-87 loss at Cleveland. After the game, Brown was taken to a local hospital on a stretcher.

"Larry Brown has been released from the hospital this morning and is on his way back to New York," the team said in a statement. "He has a stomach ailment and will not coach versus Milwaukee tonight. However, he is fully cleared to return to the bench when he feels ready. Assistant coach Herb Williams will coach the Knicks tonight in his place."

Brown, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002, has had health issues before. He missed 17 games last season, as a hip replacement operation led to his undergoing another surgery for a bladder problem. Brown then had surgery after the Pistons lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

The Knicks have a 22-56 record, tied with Charlotte for the worst mark in the Eastern Conference. The fourth all-time winningest coach in NBA history, Brown is in his first year at the helm of the Knicks.
