Charlotte streaking to nowhere

02.3.2006

(Basketball News) - The injury-depleted Charlotte Bobcats hope to put the brakes on their franchise-record 13-game losing streak this evening when they welcome Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers to town.

Charlotte continued its miserable run on Wednesday as Raymond Felton scored 20 points, while Brevin Knight paced the offense with 19 points and 10 assists for the Bobcats, who have lost 17 of 18 and have not won since topping the Houston Rockets back on January 10.

Jumaine Jones netted 13 points, Melvin Ely had 11 and Matt Carroll added 10 points for Charlotte, which has lost six in a row at home.

Charlotte never led by more than one point and trailed by as many as 17.

With forwards Emeka Okafor (ankle), Gerald Wallace (knee) and Sean May (knee), already sidelined, the Bobcats could be without another player up front this evening, as Bernard Robinson (ankle) missed practice on Thursday and will be a game-time decision tonight.

Okafor, averaging 13.2 points and 10.0 rebounds, has missed 19 of the last 20 games with a sprained right ankle that is may sideline him for five more weeks. Wallace, who averages 14.5 points and 7.0 boards per game, is out with a left medial tibia bone bruise he suffered in a Jan. 21 loss to Orlando.

Charlotte, which is in the midst of a six-game homestand, is 7-15 in its arena this season. It will close this stand with visits from Seattle, Philadelphia and Toronto before heading back out on the road for February 11 tilt in Milwaukee.

The Bobcats lost to the Lakers earlier in the season and has lost all three meetings with them.
