Clippers, Grizzlies meet at Staples Center

01.20.2007

(Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Clippers play the second of a five-game homestand when they host the Memphis Grizzlies in an afternoon contest at the Staples Center.

Elton Brand posted 27 points and 11 rebounds and the Clippers wrapped up a home-and-home set against the shorthanded Golden State Warriors with a 115-109 victory on Wednesday at the Staples Center.

Quinton Ross had a career-high 24 points in the win over Golden State for the Clippers, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Veteran Sam Cassell posted 23 points and 13 assists, while Cuttino Mobley netted 20 and grabbed eight rebounds and Corey Maggette, who is the subject of trade rumors, contributed 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists off the bench.

Guard Shaun Livingston (sprained right ankle) and forward Tim Thomas (ear infection) were sidelined against Golden State for the Clippers. Livingston, Thomas and center Chris Kaman (sore ankle) are questionable for today’s game.

The Clippers are 13-7 as the host this season. They will also host Milwaukee, New Jersey and Minnesota on the current homestand.

Memphis tries once again to win back-to-back games for the first time this season, as it begins a four-game road trip. On Wednesday, Mike Miller scored 30 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists to lead Memphis over the Philadelphia 76ers, 118-102, at the FedExForum.

Rookie Rudy Gay ended with 23 points off the bench, including 16 in the first half, and Pau Gasol contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Philadelphia for the Grizzlies, who halted a three-game losing streak.

The Grizzlies are a brutal 2-17 on the road this season. They will also visit Denver, Utah and San Antonio on the road trip.

This is the third and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. The Clippers captured the two previous contests, winning at home and on the road.

The Grizzlies have won five of their last seven at the Clippers.
