Jermaine O’Neal, who spent the first four years of his career in Portland, scored a season-high 34 points, hauled down 14 boards and blocked eight shots in a dominating performance, leading the Pacers to an 89-82 win over the Phoenix Suns Monday at America West Arena.
Portland traded O’Neal and center Joe Kleine to the Pacers for center Dale Davis in August 2000.
Al Harrington scored 18 points to go along with six rebounds and seven assists on Monday, while Reggie Miller collected 15 points for the Pacers, who followed up a Sunday demolition at the hands of the Lakers with their ninth win in 10 games.
Indiana forward Ron Artest (back) is expected to play tonight, while guard Jamaal Tinsley (personal) is questionable.
The Pacers, who are 1-1 on the current swing, are 8-1 on the road this season.
The Trail Blazers found more trouble with the law on Tuesday, as power forward Zach Randolph was arrested early in the morning after being stopped by police in North Portland for driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The 6-foot-9 power forward was released from the county justice center and is facing a misdemeanor charge that could be punishable by up to one year in prison or a fine between $1,000 and $5,000.
Randolph’s play has been a big positive for the Blazers this season. The former Michigan State star has scored 20 or more points in nine of Portland’s 17 games this season.
Portland comes into tonight’s game well rested and it has not played since defeating the New Jersey Nets 97-93 on Friday, as Damon Stoudamire scored a season-high 28 points and handed out seven assists.
Randolph netted 26 and pulled down nine rebounds for the Blazers, who snapped a two-game skid with the victory.
Portland is 8-2 at home.
Last season, the Blazers won both games with the Pacers and have won three straight and five of the last six meetings with Indiana. The Pacers have also lost three straight and five of their last six in Portland.
