King James takes court in Los Angeles

12.3.2005

(Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers try to get back on the winning track this evening when they continue their three-game road trip against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center.

These teams met three days ago. On Wednesday, Donyell Marshall scored 13 points, including two three-pointers in overtime, as the Cavaliers defeated the Clippers, 112-105, at Quicken Loans Arena.

Elton Brand scored a season-high 33 points and grabbed 13 boards in the loss for the Clippers, while veteran guard Sam Cassell poured in 26 points and dished out 10 assists. Corey Maggette contributed 25 points before fouling out just over three minutes into overtime for the Clippers.

The Clippers, who begin a tough five-game homestand tonight, are 5-1 in their building this season. They will also host Miami, New York, Phoenix and Detroit on the stand.

The Cavs, meanwhile, kicked off their road trip in losing fashion on Friday, as they dropped a 115-108 decision to the Seattle SuperSonics. LeBron James had a game-high 34 points and dished out eight assists to lead Cleveland, which suffered its third loss in four outings.

With the game tied at 98-98 with four minutes remaining, the Sonics went on an 8-2 run to take the lead for good. Damon Jones answered with a three-pointer to cut the Cavs’ deficit to 106-103 12 seconds later, but Ray Allen’s trey with 1:22 on the clock extended the lead back to six.

Jones again drained a three-pointer with 1:04 left to again make it a three- point game.

Ronald Murray and James exchanged layups to keep it a three-point contest, but Murray hit a pair of free throws with 16.7 left to increase the lead to five. Vladimir Radmanovic then stole the ensuing inbounds pass after a timeout and went the length of the court for a dunk to account for the final score.

Cleveland, which will close its trek in Sacramento on Tuesday, is 3-4 away from home this season.

The Cavs have won two straight and five of their last seven from the Clips. Cleveland, though, has dropped two straight and four of five as the visitor in this series.
