Knicks sign Cato, exercise options on three players 10.25.2006

The 6-foot-11, 275-pound Cato is averaging 5.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in 523 career games. Drafted 15th overall in 1997 out of Iowa State, Cato was traded on draft night by Dallas to Portland. After two years in Portland, Cato played for Houston, Orlando, and Detroit.
The Knicks also exercised the third-year options on forward/center Channing Frye, guard Nate Robinson, and forward David Lee.
Frye averaged 12.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in his rookie campaign from Arizona. Robinson averaged 9.3 points per game in his rookie year out of Washington, shooting 39.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Lee averaged 5.1 points per game in his first year out of Florida.
The Knicks also waived center Paul Miller, guard Milone Clark, and forwards Elton Brown and Nikoloz Tskitishvili.
