Lewis leads SuperSonics past Jazz

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - Rashard Lewis registered 35 points as he helped lead Seattle to an improbable come from behind 106-103 victory over Utah from the EnergySolutions Arena.

Lewis also collected a team-high eight rebounds for Seattle, which snapped a four-game losing skid. Earl Watson added 15 points and nine assists for the Sonics, while Nick Collison chipped in 14 points in the win.

As for the Jazz, they were paced by Deron Williams, as the guard scored 24 points and dished out a team-best 13 assists. Carlos Boozer also added a double-double, netting 16 points to go along with 13 rebounds.

Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap both tallied 12 points apiece in the heartbreaking loss, while Mehmet Okur, Gordan Giricek and Matt Harpring all chipped in 10 points apiece. It was the third consecutive setback for Utah, which is now 29-8 on its home floor.

The Jazz now leads Houston by one game for the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoff race.

The Sonics opened the contest with a 10-4 run and led for the majority of the first quarter. After 12 minutes of action Seattle had a slim, 30-27 edge over Utah.

However, the Jazz turned up the heat in the second stanza, using a 16-6 run midway through the quarter, as they went into the locker room with a 57-48 advantage.

Utah continued to dominate play in the third period, abusing Seattle for the entire quarter, while heading into the final stanza with a 20-point edge.

Unfortunately for the Jazz, they forgot to come out for the final quarter and the Sonics took full advantage of Utah’s lackadaisical play.

Seattle caught fire in the final frame connecting on seven three-point attempts, while also using a 17-4 run to cut its deficit to just five with under four minutes to play.

The Sonics continued their onslaught, outscoring the Jazz 12-6 in the final two minutes of action en route to the thrilling three-point victory.

On the night, Seattle made an impressive 12-of-23 attempts from long range, while Utah connected on just 5-of-15 attempts from behind the arc.

Game Notes

Seattle shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the contest and connected on 16- of-23 attempts from the foul line...The last time Utah was on the court the team blew a 17-point edge over Sacramento...The Jazz won the battle on the glass, 38-25.
