(Basketball News) - Corey Maggette scored eight of his 33 points after regulation as the Los Angeles Clippers needed double overtime to defeat the expansion Charlotte Bobcats, 99-93, at the Staples Center.
Maggette was 19-of-21 from the foul line and he also pulled down 11 rebounds to help the Clippers to their sixth win in seven games. Elton Brand scored 19 points with seven boards before getting ejected late in the fourth quarter for a flagrant foul.
Bobby Simmons chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds in a career-high 52 minutes while Marko Jaric starred defensively with five steals to go with 10 assists.
The Clippers opened the second overtime with four consecutive points for a 93-89 edge. After a jumper by Jason Kapono, Chris Kaman scored a crucial bucket from the paint to restore the four-point margin.
Emeka Okafor made a pair from the charity stripe to get Charlotte back within two, but Simmons’ baseline jumper with 10 ticks left cemented the victory.
The Clippers return to action on Saturday against the Lakers.
