(Basketball News) - The Clippers lost to the Lakers, 91-89, Saturday as the basketball rivals in Los Angeles hooked up at the Staples Center.
Elton Brand posted a season-high 35 points for the Clippers, who have dropped four of their last six.
The Lakers led 89-82 with 1:46 to play, but the Clippers got back into the game with a 7-2 run down the stretch. Marko Jaric capped off the burst with a basket and the Clippers were within two at 91-89 with 43 seconds remaining.
After the Lakers failed to score the rest of the way, the Clippers had one more chance to tie or even win on the final possession. But the Clippers were not able to get up a good shot as Keyon Dooling’s three-pointer with a defender in his face missed as time was expiring.
The Clippers only shot 38 percent from the field and turned the ball over 15 times.
Brand has 19 double-doubles this the season.
The Clippers are off until Monday when they host Mike Bibby and the Sacramento Kings.
