(Basketball News) - Corey Maggette scored 29 points to help the Los Angeles Clippers to a 104-102 overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.
Quentin Richardson tied the game late in regulation with a three-pointer and finished with 23 points, as the Clippers won for the first time this season. Los Angeles had lost its first two games of the season at the NBA Japan Games to Seattle.
Chris Wilcox added 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win for the Clippers, who have won four straight over Denver.
Denver rookie sensation Carmelo Anthony opened the extra session with a shot from behind the arc to give the Nuggets a 91-88 advantage. A basket by Richardson drew Denver within one, but Anthony hit another three-pointer to make it a four-point game.
Wilcox and Anthony then traded baskets to keep the margin at four with just over two minutes left in overtime. Two straight baskets by Richardson, though, tied the game at 96-96.
A short jumper by Maggette and a lay-up by Marco Jaric then made it 100-96 in favor of the Clippers with under a minute to play. The Nuggets pulled within a basket at 101-99, but Maggette sealed the contest with a breakaway dunk with 5.5 second left.
The Clippers are off until Tuesday when they host the Atlanta Hawks.
