(Basketball News) - Jumaine Jones scored 22 of his 25 points in the second quarter and his clutch three-pointer with 1:59 left helped the Los Angeles Lakers to a 105-98 win over the Orlando Magic at the Staples Center.
Jones, who went 6-for-6 from behind the arc in the second quarter, drained his seventh three of the game late in the fourth quarter to extend Los Angeles’ lead to 100-96. Then, with the score 102-98, Jones grabbed a key rebound of a Kobe Bryant miss with 31 seconds remaining to extend the possession and allow the Lakers to increase their lead.
Jones shot 9-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from three-point land.
Bryant finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Lakers, who have won two straight and three of four. Chris Mihm added 25 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for Los Angeles, which split the season series against the Magic.
Lamar Odom ended with 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Lakers, who overcame a deficit as big as 12 points.
The Lakers, who play their next two on the road, return to action on Tuesday versus the Seattle SuperSonics.
