Magic cruise to victory over Cavs

03.10.2006

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - Carlos Arroyo had 17 points and seven assists to lead the Orlando Magic over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 102-73, at TD Waterhouse Centre.

Tony Battie added 13 points and 13 rebounds and Keyon Dooling also had 13 points for the Magic, who carried the momentum of a record-setting second quarter to end a six-game losing streak.

Bo Outlaw had 12 points and eight boards and Darko Milicic had 11 points for Orlando, which got 67 points off the bench.

LeBron James had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cavaliers, who had a four-game win streak halted.

Cleveland led 28-21 after one quarter, but red-hot shooting, mostly by the Magic’s reserves, put Orlando in control in the second. The Magic shot a franchise record 16-of-19 from the field in the second stanza, outscoring Cleveland 32-16.

The Magic’s bench scored the first 26 points for the club in the quarter, finishing the frame with 28 points. Arroyo also registered all of his assists in the quarter, setting a franchise mark for helpers in a quarter.

Orlando took control of the game by using a 22-5 run to start the frame to build a 43-33 advantage. Milicic had 10 points during the surge, capping it with 5:45 left until halftime.

Orlando continued to control action throughout the second half, extending to a 76-60 lead going into the fourth. Cleveland then scored just 13 fourth-quarter points and the Magic cruised to the finish.

Dwight Howard had eight points and nine boards for Orlando, which ended a six- game slide to the Cavs.

Game Notes

Orlando’s Grant Hill left the game after continuing to feel pain in his abdomen. Hill recently had surgery for a sports hernia that forced him to miss a bulk of action...The Magic’s last win against Cleveland came on February 1, 2005.
