Mavs are hot

01.25.2006

(Basketball News) - The Dallas Mavericks are playing great basketball and are sticking right with the defending world champion San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest Division.

San Antonio (32-10) leads the Mavericks (31-10) by just a half-game in the division race.

The Mavericks go for their sixth straight win on Wednesday when they visit the Golden State Warriors at The Arena in Oakland. It is the second meeting of the season between the clubs this season. On December 30th, Baron Davis netted a season-high 34 points and scored the winning basket with under one second left, as the Warriors beat the Mavericks, 111-109, at the American Airlines Center.

Dallas has scored over 100 points in 19 of the last 20 contests against the Warriors. The teams have split the last four meetings, while The Mavericks have won two straight and 11 of their last 12 at Golden State.

The Mavericks play the fourth of a five-game road trip Wednesday. On Sunday, Jerry Stackhouse had a season-high 29 points to lead Dallas in a 95-89 overtime victory against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 23 points and five rebounds and Devin Harris added 15 points in the win over Portland for the Mavericks, who have won eight of their last nine games overall. Josh Howard registered 13 points and seven rebounds in the victory for Dallas, which has defeated Portland eight straight times.

Dallas, which will visit Ray Allen and the Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday at KeyArena, is 16-6 as the visitor this season. The Mavericks are 8-2 in their last 10 games away from home.

Stackhouse is averaging 21.5 points and four assists in his last two games. The North Carolina product has registered double-digits in scoring in eight of the 15 games he has played in this season.

The Mavericks have scored over 100 points in seven of their last nine contests.
