(Basketball News) - The Milwaukee Bucks lost in front of their home crowd on Tuesday, falling to the Atlanta Hawks, 101-93.
Tim Thomas scored 17 points and Michael Redd added 12 points, but shot just 3- for-15 from the field. Joe Smith had 10 points and nine rebounds for Milwaukee, which has lost three of its last five games.
With Atlanta leading 66-57, Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored to ignite a 9-2 run. Stephen Jackson hit from three-point range during the spurt and Theo Ratliff hit a pair from the free throw line to give the Hawks a 75-59 lead with just over three minutes left in the third quarter. Abdur-Rahim had eight points in the period and Atlanta took an 81-67 lead in the final stanza.
Field goals by Lee Nailon and Jacque Vaughn to begin the final stanza increased the Hawks’ lead to 85-67. A jumper by Nailon midway through the final quarter kept the Bucks comfortably in front, 93-73.
The Bucks scored five unanswered points in the final minute, but it was too late to threaten the Atlanta lead.
Milwaukee shot 32-of-38 from the free throw line.
The Bucks start a three-game road trip tonight in Denver against rookie sensation Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets.
