Nets exercise option on Planinic

10.31.2005

East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - The New Jersey Nets announced Monday they have exercised the fourth-year option on guard Zoran Planinic and it will keep him under contract through the 2006-07 season.

As per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not released.

"Zoran is a versatile player who has shown continued improvement in his first two seasons," said team president Rod Thorn. "We look forward to his continued development."

A native of Croatia, Planinic will be entering his third season. In 92 career games, he has averaged 4.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

Also, assistant coach Gordon Chiesa resigned from his position citing family problems as the reason.
