San Antonio Spurs Team Report - November 29 11.29.2003
|
(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs were pounded by the Los Angeles Lakers, 103-87, Friday at the Staples Center.
Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 13 points and Tony Parker contributed 12, as San Antonio had its two-game winning streak snapped.
The game was tight for the first portion of the first quarter, with the Lakers holding just a one-point advantage at 13-12 with six minutes remaining in the opening stanza.
But LA began to pull away at that point, and when Derek Fisher scored with four seconds left, it capped a 12-4 run to close out the quarter and the Lakers led 25-16.
The Lakers grew their lead as large as 16 in the second quarter when Karl Malone drained two free throws with 3:44 to go in the half. San Antonio trailed 47-34 after the first 24 minutes.
If the outcome of this contest were in any doubt, the Lakers quickly eliminated those doubts in the third quarter. The Spurs hung with the Lakers over the first four minutes, still trailing by 14.
But Devean George drilled a three-pointer midway through the frame to send the Lakers on a 15-2 run over a three-minute stretch to establish a 30-point lead at 76-46.
The Lakers held a 84-55 advantage after the third stanza, and the Spurs couldn’t trim the lead to less than 20 until the final minute of the game.
The Spurs visit the Golden State Warriors tonight.
