Scorching Lakers welcome Mavs to Staples

12.12.2003

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Lakers try to extend two winning streaks tonight when they host the Dallas Mavericks in a Western Conference battle at the Staples Center.

Los Angeles, which has won 10 straight overall to go along with its perfect home record (12-0), have also won 27 consecutive home games, dating back to last season, and are three victories shy of the club record of 30.

The Lakers ran off 30 straight home wins twice, both while the team called Minneapolis home, with the last time coming in the 1950-51 campaign.

Dallas has lost 26 straight at the Lakers, who have won five straight over the Mavericks. The last time the Mavericks were victorious on the Lakers’ floor was on December 12, 1990 when they won in overtime, 112-97.

Kobe Bryant posted 21 points and nine assists, as the Lakers remained unbeaten at home this season with a 98-90 victory over the New York Knicks Tuesday at Staples Center.

Shaquille O’Neal registered 18 points and 15 rebounds for LA in the win.

The Lakers have already defeated the Mavericks twice this season, winning 109-93 on October 28th at home and 114-103 on December 4th at Dallas.

The Mavericks welcomed Dirk Nowitzki back to the lineup on Wednesday, but it did not matter, as they suffered a heartbreaking 100-99 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Michael Finley scored a season-high 38 points and Antoine Walker collected 21 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Nowitzki, who missed the last five games with a sprained right ankle, returned to the lineup and posted nine points in 27 minutes for the Mavericks, who fell for the second time in three games.
