Seattle SuperSonics Team Report - March 20 03.20.2004
|
(Basketball News) - The SuperSonics continued their excellent play Friday, downing the New Orleans Hornets, 91-80, along the Bayou.
Rashard Lewis scored 31 points to lead the Sonics to the victory. Ray Allen added 19 points and Vitaly Potapenko had 14 and 10 rebounds for the Sonics, who won their fourth straight game — all on the road — after closing out the contest on a 17-5 run.
Thanks to their recent road success, the Sonics pushed their mark in foreign buildings to 15-20 for the season.
New Orleans used a 12-0 run, highlighted by five points from Baron Davis, in the fourth quarter to grab a 75-74 advantage with 5:12 remaining. But the Sonics took over from there, finishing off the contest with a 17-5 burst.
Seattle, which is a weak rebounding team, dominated the paint and the glass in this contest. The Sonics held a 44-34 advantage on the boards and a 40-32 edge in the paint.
Ronald "Flip" Murray contributed 11 points off the bench in the win for the Sonics.
The Sonics will return home to face the lowly Orlando Magic Sunday. Orlando will be playing without Tracy McGrady, who is attending the funeral of his great-grandmother.
Seattle is 16-18 at KeyArena this season.
