Slumping 76ers conclude trip at Golden State

03.19.2006

(Basketball News) - The struggling Philadelphia 76ers will try to right the ship this afternoon when they visit the Golden State Warriors at The Arena.

The Sixers have lost three straight and are 0-2 on their current three-game road trip. Philadelphia lost to Seattle in the opener, then dropped a 99-89 decision to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.

Chris Webber scored 19 points for the 76ers, who are still without leading scorer Allen Iverson. Kyle Korver and Steven Hunter scored 17 points apiece against the Clippers.

Iverson missed his third straight game with a sprain and contusion of the right foot. Iverson, who is expected to miss the entire road swing for Philadelphia, was injured in last Sunday’s 94-91 victory at Memphis.

A.I. leads the team in scoring (33.2 ppg) and assists (7.4 apg).

Philadelphia has lost six of its last seven games and is currently clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It is 1-3 in its last four road games and 12-20 away from the Wachovia Center this season.

Meanwhile, Golden State has lost five of its last seven games, but posted a 105-97 victory over Minnesota on Thursday.

Mike Dunleavy tied a season high with 24 points and Ike Diogu added 21 points at The Arena in Oakland. Dunleavy scored the Warriors’ first 15 points of the fourth quarter to keep the club in front and grabbed six boards in the win.

Derek Fisher contributed 16 points and tied a career-high with 13 assists, Jason Richardson had 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Troy Murphy posted a double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds for Golden State.

The Warriors, who reside in last place in the Pacific Division, are 17-16 as the host in 2005-06.

Philadelphia won the first meeting of the season with Golden State by a 111-100 score on December 21. Iverson had 38 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals to lead the 76ers at the Wachovia Center, while Webber chipped in 27 points and seven boards.

The Sixers have won three of four and 10 of the last 15 meetings with Golden State. They also have won four of seven at The Arena in Oakland.
