Slumping Bobcats host Nuggets

12.13.2005

(Basketball News) - The Charlotte Bobcats try and halt a seven-game losing streak this evening when they wrap up a brief two-game homestand against the Denver Nuggets.

Charlotte’s latest loss came on Saturday, as it dropped a 111-103 decision to the Toronto Raptors at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.

Brevin Knight topped six Bobcat players in double figures with 20 points and dished out 12 assists, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Jumaine Jones finished with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in defeat.

Charlotte, which has lost eight of nine, played most of the second half without star center Emeka Okafor. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year was forced out due to a sprained right big toe with 6:11 left in the third quarter.

Okafor, whose numbers are down from last year’s sensational season, practiced with the team on Monday and should be ready to go tonight.

The Bobcats, who play three of their next four in Charlotte, are 4-5 in their arena this season.

Denver, meanwhile, comes into tonight’s contest on a losing note as well after falling to the Orlando Magic, 94-83, on Saturday at the TD Waterhouse Centre. The dynamic Carmelo Anthony had a game-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting for the Nuggets, who lost for the first time in four games.

Marcus Camby added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Andre Miller chipped in with nine points and 10 assists.

Denver was again without star forward Kenyon Martin, who has missed the last two games with a knee injury. Martin will be a game-time decision, but should be able to play tonight.

The same might not be said for guard Earl Boykins, who has played in 253 consecutive games. He is nursing a sore hamstring and is questionable for tonight’s contest.

Denver, which is in the midst of a six-game road trip, is 3-7 away from home this season.

The Nuggets split their two matchups with the Bobcats last season.
