Streaking Grizzlies host Hornets

12.6.2005

(Basketball News) - The streaking Memphis Grizzlies attempt to collect a season-high sixth straight victory tonight, as they host the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets at the FedExForum.

Memphis has won six of nine and seven of the last 12 meetings in this series. The Hornets have lost four of their last six at the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies begin a brief two-game homestand. On Saturday, Damon Stoudamire scored 24 points and Bobby Jackson added a season-high 18 off the bench, as Memphis jumped out to a large early lead and beat the Houston Rockets, 90-75, at the Toyota Center.

Stoudamire and Jackson combined to make 11-of-15 three-point field goals, as the team finished 15-of-32 from beyond the arc in the win over the Rockets. The 15 three-pointers were a franchise record. Pau Gasol added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Shane Battier tallied 14 points for the Grizzlies, who won nine of their last 11 games overall.

Memphis, which has won two in a row at the FedExForum, is 5-2 at home this season. The Grizzlies are scheduled to host Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

The Hornets wrap up a short two-game road trip. On Saturday, Nowitzki had a game-high 30 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Mavericks over New Orleans/Oklahoma City, 97-88, at American Airlines Center.

Rookie phenom Chris Paul finished with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists in the loss to Dallas for the Hornets, while Speedy Claxton added 21 points and five rebounds in defeat.

New Orleans/Oklahoma City is 4-5 on the road this season. The Hornets return home on Wednesday to host Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics.
