Streaking Kings host Yao and Rockets

11.28.2003

Sacramento, CA (Basketball News) - The Sacramento Kings try to remain unbeaten at home this season before another sellout crowd at ARCO Arena as they tangle with Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets tonight.

The Kings have won six in a row overall. The last time they won seven straight was during an 11-game run, March 26 - April 12, 2002. They are also 8-0 at home this season and have won 15 in a row at ARCO Arena dating back to last season. A victory tonight would give the Kings their third longest home winning streak in franchise history. The Rochester Royals won 23 in a row at home during the 1949-50 season. The Kings then won 20 in a row at ARCO Arena during the 2001-02 campaign.

Tonight marks the fourth contest of an eight-game, 22-day homestand, the longest in Sacramento history. Sacramento’s next road game is December 12 at Utah.

The Kings are coming off a 109-89 triumph over Memphis Tuesday night. Peja Stojakovic scored a game-high 26 points for Sacramento, which erased a one- point halftime deficit. Mike Bibby added 16 points.

Sacramento has been winning with ease at home, outscoring its last five foes at ARCO Arena by 93 points.

The Rockets are 1-2 on a current five-game road trip, which wraps up tomorrow night in Seattle. On Wednesday at Delta Center, the Rockets produced their second-worst shooting effort and third-worst scoring performance of the season, making just 33.3 percent of their shots in an 83-76 loss to the Utah Jazz. Yao compiled 20 points and 10 rebounds. Houston set a season low with 26 defensive rebounds Wednesday at Utah, while tying season lows with 11 assists, four steals and three blocks.

This marks the first of four meetings this season between the Rockets and Kings. The teams split four matchups last season. However, Sacramento has won 13 of the last 16 games against the Rockets, including the last eight at ARCO Arena. The last time the Kings fell at home to the Rockets was on March 28, 1999.
