Streaking Suns host Nuggets

12.2.2005

(Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns try to extend their season-high winning streak to five games tonight, as they welcome the Denver Nuggets to America West Arena.

The Suns have won four straight in this series, while these two teams have split the last 16 contests overall. Denver has dropped two straight at Phoenix.

Phoenix plays the third contest of a five-game homestand. Reigning MVP Steve Nash scored a season-high 31 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out nine assists as the defeated the Indiana Pacers, 109-91, at America West Arena.

All-Star Shawn Marion chipped in 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Indiana for the Suns, who have won five of their last six games overall. Boris Diaw finished with 17 points and Kurt Thomas contributed 11 in the victory.

The Suns, who will host Atlanta and Portland in the final two contests of the current stand, are 5-4 as the host this season.

Denver will attempt to halt a two-game slide. On Wednesday, Desmond Mason poured in 26 points and pulled down seven rebounds, as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets knocked off the Nuggets, 102-95, at the Pepsi Center.

Andre Miller led all scorers with a season-high 33 points in the loss to the Hornets for Denver, which has dropped three of its last five games overall. The Nuggets played without star forward Carmelo Anthony, who injured his ankle on Monday during a 102-91 loss to the New Jersey Nets at the Pepsi Center.

Anthony, who averaging 20.3 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Nuggets this season, is questionable for tonight’s contest.

The Nuggets are 2-5 on the road this season. They will host the Miami Heat on Saturday at the Pepsi Center.
