Struggling Clippers host Kidd and Nets

11.27.2003

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - The New Jersey Nets play the second of a five-game road trip tonight when they travel to Los Angeles to take on the struggling Clippers at the Staples Center.

Jason Kidd registered his NBA-leading third triple-double of the season on Tuesday night, as the New Jersey Nets defeated the Seattle SuperSonics, 93-70, at Key Arena.

Kidd finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, He returned to the floor after a one-game absence due to a sore left knee.

Kenyon Martin posted 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Nets, who halted a two- game losing streak. Richard Jefferson scored 18 points and Kerry Kittles had 11 in the win.

New Jersey played its first game after receiving some bad news on Monday. Center Alonzo Mourning announced that he will no longer be able to continue his professional basketball career because of an existing medical condition.

Mourning, who missed the entire 2002-03 campaign with a kidney disorder, is expected to undergo a kidney transplant soon.

The Nets are 4-2 away from home this season.

The Los Angeles Clippers lost their fourth in a row on Monday, losing to the Houston Rockets, 105-90, in front of their home crowd.

Corey Maggette led the Clippers with 33 points, a season-high and one point shy of his career-best. Predrag Drobnjak added 20 in the loss.

Los Angeles guards Quentin Richardson (ankle) and Marko Jaric (left arch) are day-to-day.

The Clippers are 2-2 as the host this season.

In 2002-03, the teams split two meetings as each club won on its homecourt.

Overall, the Clippers won the last meeting, a 126-118 overtime win in LA on November 28, 2002, to snap a five-game losing streak to the Nets.

The Nets have won six of eight and seven of the last 12 meetings between the two squads.
