Utah needs to make its move

03.21.2006

(Basketball News) - The Utah Jazz (31-35) are six games behind the division- leading Denver Nuggets in the Northwest. However, they trail the eighth-seeded Sacramento Kings by just two games for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

On Tuesday, the Pacific Division-leading Phoenix Suns attempt to get back on the winning track as they visit the Jazz at the Delta Center. It is the third and final meeting of the season between the clubs. The Suns won the two previous contests, as they were victorious at home and on the road.

Phoenix has won three in a row against the Jazz. The Suns have won three of their last four at Utah.

Utah opens a four-game homestand against the Suns. On Sunday, Chucky Atkins scored 20 points and was 4-of-9 from beyond the arc as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Jazz, 90-84, at the FedExForum.

Carlos Boozer paced Utah with 19 points and nine boards in the loss to Memphis for the Jazz, who have dropped four of their last five games overall. Mehmet Okur posted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in defeat.

The Jazz, who have won three in a row at home, are 16-16 at the Delta Center this season. They will also host Washington, Sacramento and New Orleans/Oklahoma City on the current stand.

Okur leads the Jazz in scoring (17.9 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg), while forward Andrei Kirilenko, who is second on the team in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg), has dished out a team-best 4.2 assists per contest.

Utah is scheduled to play nine of its final 16 games at home.
