Warriors are better than their record

03.17.2006

(Basketball News) - After a promising 12-6 start, the Golden State Warriors are a disappointing 27-37 and are placed firmly in the cellar of the Pacific Division. They are six games behind the fourth place Los Angeles Lakers.

On Thursday, Mike Dunleavy tied a season-high with 24 points and rookie Ike Diogu added 21, as Golden State defeated the slumping Minnesota Timberwolves, 105-97, at The Arena in Oakland.

Dunleavy scored the Warriors’ first 15 points of the fourth quarter to keep the club in front and also grabbed six boards in the victory.

Derek Fisher contributed 16 points and tied a career-high with 13 assists, while Jason Richardson netted 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the win over Minnesota for the Warriors. Forward Troy Murphy posted a double- double with 10 points and 17 rebounds, as Golden State won for the second time in their last three games overall.

The Warriors return to the court on Sunday when they host the Philadelphia 76ers. It is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. On December 21st, Allen Iverson finished with 38 points, six rebounds and eight assists to lead the 76ers to a 111-100 win over Golden State at the Wachovia Center.

Golden State is 17-16 at home this season. Eight of the Warriors final 18 games will be played at The Arena.

Richardson leads the Warriors in scoring (23.1 ppg), while Murphy is averaging a team-best 9.8 rebounds and the injured Baron Davis has dished out a club- high 8.9 assists per game.

The two-time All-Star Davis (ankle) is sidelined indefinitely.
