Warriors’ Jackson pleads guilty in gun incident

06.20.2007

Indianapolis, IN (Basketball News) - Golden State Warriors swingman Stephen Jackson pleaded guilty to criminal recklessness on Wednesday for firing a gun outside of a strip club in October.

The former Indiana Pacers player was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service. The 29-year-old Jackson, who played for the Pacers at the time of the incident but was traded to Golden State in January, avoided possible jail time with the plea, as he was still on probation in October for his involvement in the brawl that erupted between the Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, and Detroit fans in 2004.

Other players involved in the incident — Jamaal Tinsley, Marquis Daniels and Jimmie Hunter — were not charged.

Jackson reportedly was hit by a car and fired a gun in the air at least five times during the incident.

Jackson will serve another year of probation for his latest brush with the law. He averaged 15.5 points and three rebounds per game last season for Indiana and Golden State, and was a big contributor to an upstart Warriors club that ousted the Dallas Mavericks, the top seed in the Western Conference, in the first round of the playoffs.
