Wizards exercise option on Hayes

10.27.2005

Washington, DC (Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards have exercised the fourth-year option on swingman Jarvis Hayes. Terms were not disclosed.

Hayes averaged 10.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 54 games (22 starts) last season for the Wizards, who selected him with the 10th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

"Jarvis is a big part of the core that we’ve built here, and we’re looking forward to watching him continue to grow as a player and as a professional," Wizards president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld said. "He’s a versatile player with a good feel for the game, nice touch on his jump shot and explosive athletic ability. We think he’s a nice fit for what we’re doing here."

Hayes, a former Georgia star, is entering his third professional season. In 124 career games (64 starts), he has averaged 9.9 points and 4.0 boards.
