Wizards welcome Warriors to Washington

03.4.2007

(Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards resume a four-game homestand this afternoon when they host the Golden State Warriors at the Verizon Center.

Washington, which is 1-1 on the stand, put the brakes on a four-game losing streak with Friday’s 93-92 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Antawn Jamison netted 22 points in his first action in 12 games to lead the way.

Caron Butler was also back in the lineup and had four points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Southeast Division-leading Wizards, who improved to 22-8 as the host this season. Jamison had been out with a sprained left knee since January 30, and the Wizards were 4-8 without him. Butler missed Washington’s last three contests with lower back spasms, and the Wizards lost each of those games.

Gilbert Arenas finished with 19 points in the victory for the Wizards, who will also host Toronto on March 6. Washington is currently third in the Eastern Conference standings.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have lost five straight and will resume a five-game road trip at Washington. They are 0-3 so far on the trek and suffered a 106-97 loss to the New York Knicks on Friday at Madison Square Garden.

Al Harrington had 26 points and eight boards to lead Golden State, which has dropped seven in a row on the road and fell to 6-24 as the visitor this season. The Warriors are last in the Pacific Division and 3 1/2 games off the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

On the injury front for Golden State, guard Stephen Jackson (toe) is questionable for Sunday’s game against Washington. Jackson has missed the last three games.

Sunday’s showdown between Golden State and Washington is the first of two meetings this season. Both teams will meet again on March 23 in Oakland.

The Wizards won both meetings last season and is 13-7 over the last 20 encounters. Golden State has won three of its last five trips to D.C.
