Yao is the man in Houston

(Basketball News) - All-Star Yao Ming is off to great start in the 2006-07 campaign. The Houston Rockets starting center leads the team in scoring (26.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.4 rpg).

Yao, who is a four-time All-Star, has scored 20 or more in eight straight and 10 of Houston’s 11 contests this season. He has collected five double-doubles and has played over 30 minutes in 10 games.

Houston is 7-4 this season. The Rockets are tied with the Dallas Mavericks for third place in the Southwest Division.

On Wednesday, the Washington Wizards play the middle contest of a three-game road trip when they visit Houston at the Toyota Center. The Rockets have won two straight and five of the last six contests in the series. Washington has dropped four in a row and 11 of its last 12 at Houston.

Washington is scheduled to host the Rockets on December 9th in the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs.

The Rockets begin a three-game homestand against the Rockets. Yao had 26 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to lead Houston over the New York Knicks, 97-90, at Madison Square Garden.

Tracy McGrady added 24 points in the win for Houston, which has won six of its last eight games overall. Rafer Alston tallied 17 points and Luther Head had 10 points for the Rockets, who have won five straight over the Knicks.

Houston is 3-1 at home this season. The Rockets will host Memphis on Saturday and the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 28th.

The Rockets defeated the Grizzlies on November 7th. Yao ended with 24 points and seven rebounds, as Houston used a fourth-quarter surge to pull away for an 86-80 win over Memphis at the FedExForum.
